EUNICE, LA (NBC33) — A Eunice man learned that it’s probably not a good idea to bring your illegal drugs and gun when you’re out running errands around town.
The Eunice Police Department reports that Cary Miller, 33, was arrested on September 12 after an investigation revealed that he was the owner of a bag full of cocaine that was found on the floor at City Hall.
On Sept. 5, 2012, officers were called to City Hall after a citizen discovered a yellow plastic bag on the floor. It was filled with a white powder that was later determined to be cocaine. Officers then reviewed surveillance video and they say they observed a suspect, later identified as Miller, exit a vehicle out front of the building. He then pulled something out of his pocket and then allegedly shoved it in his shoe.
Miller was then seen walking into the building, and didn’t notice when the bag slipped out of his shoe. He continued walking and was seen going into the gas department to conduct business. Miller then left the building, and actually stepped over the yellow bag located in the same spot where it had fallen when it popped out of his shoe.
After identifying Miller, police issued an alert and Miller’s vehicle was located on Hwy 190 West. They conducted a traffic stop and Miller’s vehicle was searched. That’s when police say they found a 45 caliber pistol. Miller, who has a previous cocaine related arrest, is not allowed by law to carry a firearm.
Miller and the passenger of his vehicle were questioned. A warrant was issued for Miller’s arrest and he was taken into custody on Sept. 12. Officials did not say whether the passenger of the vehicle will face any charges.
Miller was charged with Possession of Schedule 2 Drugs (cocaine), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Violation of the Uniform CDS Law and Illegal Carrying of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution. His bond was set at $19,500.
