Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Louisiana state officials are trying to decide how best to collect almost $1.5 billion that is owed the state.
The money owed comes from unpaid fines and fees. It also includes state services and medical bills.
State Treasurer John Kennedy says one of the main issues is the way the state tries to collect the overdue money.
Almost half of the money is more than six months past due.
