Baton Rouge (NBC) — In Bossier Parish, the Louisiana National Guardsman who was killed while riding in a military convoy is being remembered by the soldiers he served alongside. Sergeant Kevin Dean Weiner served in Louisiana's 165th Battalion, and was remembered today as a brave, hardworking soldier who loved his wife and children. Weiner was killed in Nachitoches parish, during a mission to provide relief after hurricane Isaac. He had done similar work during Hurricane Gustav, as well as two tours overseas. The 165th has been hit hard by the news. They say it always hurts to lose one of their own, especially on a mission so close to home.
In Lafayette Parish, the Second Harvest Food Bank in Lafayette is trying to share its resources with those who need help along the Louisiana coast. Today, the timing was perfect for the 3rd grade class from Saints Leo-Seaton Catholic School to help package up some food for the hurricane victims. They'll be sending the food to the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas to help with hurricane relief efforts.
