LAFAYETTE, La — A Lafayette man has been arrested in conjunction with an attempted armed robbery.
On September 12 at around 8:00 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to the 1600 block of E University Avenue regarding an armed robbery. The victim advised he was at a park in the area when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect produced a knife and demanded money from the victim. The suspect then escorted the victim at knife point to a nearby convenience store to force the victim to remove money from an ATM.
While the victim was inside of the store, the victim told the clerk to contact Lafayette Police. Officers arrived on the scene and apprehended the suspect without incident. The victim was not injured during the robbery.
Montel Wilridge, 19, was charged with Attempted Armed Robbery, Aggravated Kidnapping and Resisting an Officer. The case remains under investigation.
