Baton Rouge, LA — For the fifth straight year, LSU has been recognized as one of the top universities in the country by U.S. News & World Report. In U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 edition of Best Colleges, LSU is once again ranked in the first tier for “Best National Universities.”
“Despite the tough budget climate, LSU continues to be nationally competitive,” said Interim LSU System President and LSU Chancellor William Jenkins. “As Louisiana’s Flagship University, LSU is providing a premier education, and the rankings are a recognition of that effort.”
Jenkins credited the university’s faculty, staff and students for continually making LSU a better place to work and receive a top-notch education.
“This ranking is a testament to the hard work everyone has put in everyday to make LSU one of the top institutions in the country,” he said. “Our faculty, staff and students have shown what it means to ‘Love Purple and Live Gold.’”
In the 2013 edition of Best Colleges, LSU’s ranking in the “Best National Universities” category is 67th among public universities and 134th overall. In the overall rankings, LSU is tied at 134th with four other schools, two public – Colorado State University and University of Arkansas – and two private – DePaul University and Hofstra University (N.Y.).
“To be recognized as a top national university by U.S. News & World Report is an achievement that should make everyone affiliated with LSU proud,” said LSU Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost Stuart Bell. “LSU has a great history, but we have an even brighter future. There are so many opportunities here for students and faculty members to succeed, and being consistently ranked as a top tier university further proves the value that LSU is providing to the state as Louisiana’s Flagship University.”
The National Universities category consists of the 281 institutions – 173 public, 101 private and seven for-profit – that offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and Ph.D. programs, and emphasize faculty research. In this year’s rankings, there are 204 schools listed in the top tier.
