Baton Rouge (NBC) — In Iberville Parish, it looks like residents will be taking the long way around to Baton Rouge for a while longer. DOTD announced today a revised estimate for when the White Castle Ferry will be up and running again. Service was expected to resume around the middle of this month...but officials say it'll be late October instead. They blame the discovery of additional necessary repairs and Hurricane Isaac as reasons for the delay.
In Livingston Parish, detectives are awaiting extradition on a a man they
they say took a truck and a large amount of cash from a person in Satsuma.
Deputies say 55 year old Johnny Hickman and 50 year old Vicki Garces used a scam to get the Satsuma resident's vehicle and money...saying they would deliver construction equipment in exchange for the items. Garces was arrested in East baton Rouge Parish over the weekend, but wouldn't say where Hickman was. He was arrested yesterday in Nashville on Unrelated charges. And we're told he is also wanted in Alabama, Arizona, and Florida.
In Natchitoches Parish, a Louisiana Army National Guardsman from Shreveport are dead after a crash that happened yesterday. It happened on I 49 just five miles of LA six. 30 year old Sergeant Kevin Dean Weiner was killed in the crash. We're told his passenger--another guardsman--was injured, but is expected to be okay. State Police say the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
