NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Florida, Ohio, and Virginia are among the most hotly contested states this presidential campaign, and the advertising spending totals confirm their importance.
Since the week of March 19, over $117 million have been spent in Florida alone on radio and TV ads. Ohio is closely behind with $112 million targeting the Buckeye State. Virginia is third with $85 million.
Despite a large influx of money from outside groups, only in Virginia are Romney and his allies outspending the President.
In Florida and Ohio, the Super PACs are chipping in just enough to be on par with Obama.
Overall, about $575 million total has been booked on TV and radio ads this general election.
