Camera rolls as Soviet-era jet crashes at Iowa air show, killing pilot

nbc national news — The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating Saturday's fatal jet crash at Iowa's Quad City Air Show.

59-year-old pilot Glenn Smith was killed when his 1984 Czech L-39 nosedived into a field as air show attendees looked on.

Smith belonged to "The Hoppers," a club of aviators that restore and fly Soviet-era jets.

There were no signs of distress or mayday calls prior to the crash.
