BATON ROUGE, LA — Alfred Blue and Kenny Hilliard rushed for a combined 266 yards as the LSU Tigers took down North Texas in their season opener, 41-14. Zach Mettenberger completed 19 of his 26 passes including one touchdown strike to Kadron Boone. Mettenberger took a hard hit to the upper body which forced him to exit the game. He later returned after passing several concussion tests. Javis Landry led the receivers with eight grabs for 82 yards. The Tigers racked up 508 yards of total offense.
The LSU defense allowed just nine first downs but gave up two scores to the Mean Green. After the game coach Les Miles used the word “sloppy” when referring to mishaps in all phases of the game. Lamin Barrow had eight tackles to lead the way on defense.
The Tigers(1-0) will host Washington Saturday in Tiger Stadium.
