NBC NATIONAL NEWS — As the sun is begriming to rise in New Orleans we're getting a since of the damage as Hurricane Isaac rips through with strong wind and rains.
As I walk down Canal Street you may be able to see some of the debris.
We're keeping track of the sign behind me that has been dangling for several hours.
Surprisingly so because many of the signs have been ripped from the street.
We're seeing a very strong police presence here in the French Quarter for several reasons.
One for safety and to make sure people aren't out and about, also to keep track of these outages and to make sure there is no looting going on.
We have heard reports that in other areas where businesses are without power but not here in the French Quarter.
At last report close to half a million people were without power and likely be that way for several days because of the significance of this storm.
