THIBODAUX, LA (NBC33) — A Thibodaux man was arrested for first offense DWI, but not before he allegedly soiled himself in an attempt to avoid being arrested.
The Thibodaux Police Department arrested Wayne Benoit, 53, on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at around 2:00 a.m. Reports say Benoit was driving a late 90s model black truck and an officer observed him swerving in the roadway. We’re told Benoit nearly struck a person riding a bicycle.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and smelled alcohol, so a field sobriety test was administered.
That’s when things got messy.
The officer says Benoit was visibly straining his body after he failed the sobriety test. He then informed the officer that he had defecated himself. The officer believes he did so in an attempt to be released from custody. However, the officer placed handcuffs on Benoit and took him directly to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.
Police Chief Scott Silverii said that the move was another bad decision associated with impaired driving.
Reports say that Benoit had a BAC of .20 percent. He was booked for first offense DWI and Driving On Roadway Laned For Traffic.
This arrest marked the 149th impaired driver arrested this year by the Thibodaux Police Department.
