BATON ROUGE, LA — Due to a major traffic accident on Interstate 10 early this morning, which has closed a section of the Interstate, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System has experienced service delays with many of its school bus routes in the southeast part of the parish during the morning.
Administration is advising school bus drivers to avoid the area affected by this closure if possible. However, it is expected that traffic on surface streets will be heavy, which may cause delays for our riders traveling home by school bus this afternoon.
The district’s Transportation Department will add about 20 extra school buses this afternoon to regular routes and place them strategically throughout the district should their services be needed. In addition, the School System placed an automated phone call to all student households alerting them of a delay in the afternoon bus service today and possibly again tomorrow morning.
The School System will continue to monitor the situation and communicate with parents as needed. Information will also be available on our website at www.ebrschools.org . Also, get updates on Facebook by liking the NBC33 page.
