Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The group that's working with Habitat for Humanity has spent most of their time this summer building four homes in the Gardere area of Baton Rouge.
Volunteers, and people who call the area home, say that Gardere could use some revitalization.
Joe McGrath is one of the volunteers. He and the rest of group have been painting the homes for several weeks. It's not something that happens quickly.
“Habitat starts these houses from the foundation up,” stated McGrath. “It’s not a one person job. It's a big community effort get these houses put up, and a lot of hours go into them.”
When the job is finally said and done, volunteers like McGrath say the feeling they get when they see someone move in is one they never forget.
That same feeling is something several families in the Baton Rouge area will feel for themselves in the not too distant future.
