Progress being made on relief well for Assumption Parish sinkhole

Bayou Corne, La (NBC33) — A spokesman for Texas Brine Company says crews have completed installing casings for that relief well in Assumption Parish.

Right now, crews are drilling dirt out of the casing to prepare for drilling into the caprock, which sits on top of the salt dome.

Drilling toward the top of the abandoned cavern will begin sometime in the next few days.

Cleanup efforts near the sinkhole are still suspended after two workers had to be rescued from the sinkhole last week.
