BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Sometimes some old things have to go to pave the way for the future. That's exactly what happened this morning as DOTD began demolition of the bridge located at the I-10 overpass between Siegen and Highland.
It's all part of the plan to continue the I-10 widening project. The one that's coming down is being replaced by a new bridge that will eventually have six lanes of traffic on that part of the Interstate.
"It’s going to improve the flow of traffic, improve safety, decrease travel time,” Bill Grass, Geaux Wider Program, said. “So it’s very exciting. We're really looking forward to the finished product."
The DOTD says that finished product is about a year away.
