The Jackson community is holding out hope that the legislature can save a local mental health facility.
State Representative John Bel Edwards believes a plan to privatize the Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System could backfire in the end.
He says the private companys are all about the profit.
Edwards thinks that quality patient care could disappear.
His bill would require the legislature to approve any contracts the state wishes to enter into when it comes to privatizing hospitals.
