NBC News — Police in central Mexico came under heavy fire thursday after investigating a nearby drug massacre. The police and suspected members of the Zetas drug gang exchanged fire while civilians ran for cover. Authorities said three of the alleged Zetas members died at the scene while four others were arrested.
Dozens of assault rifles, grenades and rounds of ammunition were seized by military and police. The fire fight erupted just hours after authorities discovered 14 men dumped on a major highway in an attack that appeared to be the work of a drug gang.
