BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A recent rash of violent crime in Tigerland has some students wondering if the area is safe.
Police say though crime is nothing new in the area, with students moving in this week it's essential for everyone to stay on their guard.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely with Baton Rouge Police says the recent uptick in crime may have something to do with the changing dynamic of the area.
"You have to be mindful in the Tigerland area it's not only students,” he explained. “It's a combination of people who move in to that area who are students and who aren't and they partake in illegal activity."
Police are asking people in the area to be on their guard and remind them to call police if they see any suspicious activity.
