NBC News — French soldiers began pulling out of Afghanistan's Surobi Forward Operating Base this week, handing over control of the area to their Afghan counterparts. French Army soldiers began packing up military equipment and preparing it to be transported off the base on helicopters.
Some 2000 French troops are scheduled to leave this year but some will remain to provide support and training, and to look after equipment. Most foreign combat troops, including Americans, will pull out by the end of 2014.
