Iberia Parish, LA — On July 23, 2012 Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office IMPACT Unit were notified of an armed robbery that occurred in St. Martin Parish. Deputies were advised to be on the lookout for a 1994 Lexus that may have been driven by the suspect in the armed robbery. Deputies then located a vehicle matching that description and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle in the area of South Hopkins Street, New Iberia.
As deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, it drove into oncoming traffic causing others to drive off of the roadway. The driver of the suspect vehicle then exited the vehicle at the intersection of Lombard and St. Jude Street and fled on foot. The vehicle continued to travel on Lombard without a driver and struck a fence in the yard of a residence. The driver was commanded to stop by deputies, but continued to evade the deputies on foot. A police K9 (dog) was deployed an apprehended the suspect.
The suspect was transported to University Medical Center for treatment. However, he refused treatment from medical personnel. The suspect, Daniel Ford, 24, was transported back to Iberia Parish where he was booked into the Iberia Parish jail for Aggravated flight, aggravated criminal damage to property, resisting an officer and misrepresenting during booking. The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Division then processed the suspect’s vehicle and located evidence that was consistent with evidence used in the armed robbery in St. Martin Parish.
