BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — As the memories rush over, a mother is overcome with emotions too strong to bear.
"She was just an incredible, incredible person," said Monica Chambless.
But Chambless finds comfort knowing that her daughter's legacy lives on. Cristine Hadley was 21 when she died in a car accident in Ascension Parish almost two years ago. But the story doesn't end there. Her vital organs were donated, granting life to six others, reversing their fate instantly.
"I believe God gave her to me to keep 21 years just to save these six people," Chambless said.
Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lake, Chambless was able to meet not only the hospital staff who operated on her daughter, but also two of the men who received her organs.
Leo Faherty faced certain death until he received Cristine's set of lungs.
"Been a perfect match," Faherty said. "No complications, no problems. Everything's been wonderful."
Faherty share's the pain -- his son's organs were also donated back in 1985. Now it's a mother on a mission, as Chambless looks to sign up 100 organ donors that can potentially save countless lives.
