NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Police are working to identify two dismembered bodies found early Tuesday in the Detroit River.
"Someone obviously had a bone to pick with these two people, and wanted to send a message,†says Detroit Police Commander Steve Dolunt.
He called the discovery of two bodies Tuesday morning “unconscionableâ€Â.
Body parts of a white man and a white woman were discovered in the river and in a nearby canal.
Police recovered both torsos in the water near Brush Park and Riverview-Lakewood Park just after 7 a.m.
The remains were taken to the medical examiner’s office.
Later fisherman found legs, arms, a head and at least one power saw in the water several hundred yards up shore.
The area is swarming with homicide detectives, evidence collectors making sure they don’t miss anything the second time.
Investigators say the woman’s body has a distinctive tattoo, but won’t describe it for fear her family will instantly make the connection to this grisly case.
