ASCENSION PARISH, LA (NBC33) — A five year old child drowned in Ascension Parish over the weekend. Official say his parents had only lost sight of the child for five minutes before he was found in a small canal located behind the home.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred Saturday, July 14 during the afternoon in the Cessna Street Gated Community located off Highway 429. We’re told that the 5 year old child was located in the canal behind the home. Emergency responders with Acadian Ambulance transported the child to a Baton Rouge hospital. We’re told the child had a faint pulse.
Tragically, the child remained unconscious and passed away on Sunday.
Investigators say the child was with his parents, who were visiting friends at the home on Buddy Gore Drive.
No charges have been filed in relation to this case.
