NBC NATIONAL NEWS — There are only ten days until the opening ceremonies in London, and today, the Olympic Village opened for tens of thousands of athletes.
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Village is the most compact in recent games history.
The village is just a few minutes from central London. The athletes will live in apartments stretched across eleven residential blocks.
Near to the apartments is a massive cafeteria for the athletes. The 24-hour main dining area has 5,000 seats and is expected to serve more than a million meals during the games. Some 1,300 different dishes will be prepared.
Overseeing all of this is some of London's top hospitality experts.
"We've been brought here from a hotel background, so we're quite used to dealing with different requests from different guests,” stated Athlete Residence Manager Kevin Kamau. “One really good thing that the London organizing committee has done is to trying to make sure that all requests are catered to."
Of course, you can catch the 2012 Summer Olympics on NBC33. Opening ceremonies start July 27.
