PIERRE PART, LA — Around 11:00 p.m. last night, the Assumption Parish Communications Division received a call from a female caller stating “her brother Neal Theriot was trying to kill himself and that he had a knife to his throat”. Deputies responded and arrived on scene at a home on Mary Ann Street in Pierre Part and found that the subject had a self-inflicted cut to one of his wrists.
Theriot was taken by ambulance to Teche Regional Medical Center where his wounds were treated and he was later released.
About 6:00 a.m. this morning, the Sheriff's office received a second complaint from the same address where the caller stated that “Neal Theriot had punched her mother, Wanda Domingue, in the face and that her mother had shot him in the leg.”
Upon arrival, deputies found Domingue with the gun in her hand. She placed the gun down and then Theriot exited the residence stating that he had been shot. He was transported by Acadian Ambulance under police escort back to Teche Regional Medical Center and was treated and released to the custody of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office this afternoon.
Investigators learned through interviews that Neal Theriot attempted suicide after his mother, Wanda Domingue, refused to give him his medicine. She indicated that he has hit her several times in the past and that he has attempted suicide several times prior to this incident. While he was being treated at the hospital, she told an Investigator and other deputies on scene that if he returned to her residence, “she was going to shoot him.”
After she received several calls from her son upon his release from the hospital, she then drove to Morgan City and picked him up at the hospital and brought him back to Pierre Part. She brought him back to the residence but told him he could not stay with her. She stated that he then became angry and started knocking on the door of her room asking for his computer. She told him “no” and he then kicked in the door and started pushing her around in the room. She then grabbed her gun off the dresser and walked outside and Neal followed behind. He then swung at her hitting her on the left side of the face. While still standing after the hit, she stated she fired the gun once hitting him in the leg.
Neil Theriot, 34, of Pierre Part, was arrested late this afternoon and charged with Domestic Abuse Battery, Criminal Damage to Property and Disturbing the Peace. He is being held at the Assumption Parish Detention Center. His bond has not been set as of the time of this release.
Wanda Domingue, 50, of Pierre Part, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Second-Degree Battery. She is being held at the Assumption Parish Detention Center. Her bond has not been set as of the time of this release.
