LAFAYETTE, La — An alleged drunk driver was arrested for hitting a pedestrian who was walking around the ULL campus in Lafayette. The victim is currently in the hospital in critical condition.
On Sunday, July 8, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Lafayette Police responded to the 900 block of West University Avenue regarding a crash involving a pedestrian. An officer with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department arrived on the scene of the crash and observed that the driver of a 2004 Buick had struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The vehicle had been traveling West on W. University Avenue at the time of the crash.
It is unknown why the pedestrian was in the roadway. The pedestrian was transport to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition.
The driver of the car, Corey H. Duplechin, 37, of Breaux Bridge, was arrested and charged with OWI First Offense and Vehicular Negligent Injury.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Section.
