EUNICE, LA (NBC33) — A case of road rage was taken way too far when a Eunice man allegedly attacked two women. One of the victims, a teen girl, was allegedly beat violently by the suspect. The man is also said to have hit both women with his car as they attempted to flee.
The Eunice Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Monday, July 2 at roughly 11:00 a.m. Officers were called to the 1300 block of West Peach. When they arrived they found a 16 year old girl and a 32 year old woman lying in the roadway suffering from injuries.
The two women, who are cousins, said that a vehicle was passing by them and the driver was very reckless. The 32 year old woman claims that she yelled at the driver to slow down because children were in the area playing. She said the man slammed on his brakes and returned to confront her.
The suspect, Paul Flugence, 26, allegedly became violent and began beating the teen victim in her face until she was unconscious. When the victim recovered the suspect continued the attack.
Witnesses say the two women were attempting to get away when Flugence got back in his car, crossed the center line of the roadway, and struck both women with his car. He then fled the scene in his vehicle.
Both women were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
A description of the vehicle was sent out to all officers in the area and the suspect was quickly spotted in another part of the city. The officer who spotted him attempted a traffic stop, but Flugence did not pull over.
A chase ensued through several residential neighborhoods in the area. Flugence finally pulled over and was taken into custody.
Flugence was charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Battery, Second-Degree Battery, Disturbing the Peace, Criminal Damage to Property, Simple Assault, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Driving Under Suspension, and Obedience to Police Officers.
