Athens, GA (WGCL) — Police in Athens are investigating after residents filed a complaint about animals whose heads were being cut off.
The witness told police that there were decapitated goats on the footpath between Dogwood Apartments and Fourth Street Elementary School.
"I think that is, for one thing, disgusting," concerned parent Benekia Bradley said. "And for the kids to have to go there and see something like that - it's not right."
An officer arrived on scene to find a goat's head had been cut off and placed on its underside near its sexual organs.
According to the police report, the animals were dumped on the path sometime between Friday evening and Tuesday.
As the officer walked further into the path, he also found a headless chicken and a black rooster.
A 14-year-old who lives in the area said he saw a black truck with a trailer speeding out of the school's parking lot a couple days ago. The teenager also described in detail how the goats were positioned on the trail, some stacked on top of each other, and the head of one of the goat's was missing.
The officer found two more headless goats while continuing on the walking path. The officer said no blood was found at the scene.
"I am just going to keep the kids in the house," Bradley said. "And if they are outside I'll be here with them and make sure that they are OK. And keep them away from strangers."
Animal control was called to the scene and the school resource officer nearby was notified about the incident.
