Hundreds of athletes from all over the state headed to the capital city this weekend to take part in some friendly competition. It was all part of the Indoor Games for the Louisiana Special Olympics.
Over 600 athletes qualified to compete in bowling and basketball tournaments all weekend. Despite the great turnout, the Special Olympics have fallen on hard times. Officials say there are about 120,000 athletes in Louisiana that the Special Olympics can't afford to serve. The program runs on donations, and even with their best efforts, folks with the Special Olympics just aren't pulling in as much cash as they need.
