EUNICE, LA (NBC33) — A man is behind bars for allegedly beating his pregnant girlfriend after she discovered that he was with another female. The suspect reportedly punched the pregnant woman in her stomach, choked her several times and held a knife to her throat.
The Eunice Police Department reports that the incident occurred on June 24 at around 3:00 a.m. We’re told the suspect, Norman Cesar II, 24, was caught with another female by his girlfriend, who is five months pregnant. The woman became so enraged that she allegedly shattered the windows on his car.
Reports say that Cesar got out of his vehicle and grabbed his pregnant girlfriend by the neck, choking her with both hands. He then forced her back into the vehicle and ordered her to drive him to her apartment complex, where he is legally forbidden from entering.
The couple then went into the apartment where the violent attack continued.
The victim says Cesar proceeded to attack her by hitting her in the face with his fist several times. When he stopped, he gathered some belongings and left out the door.
The victim says she then locked all the doors as to prevent his ability to return. Cesar did return a few minutes later. When he was unable to gain entry into the house, he allegedly kicked in the window air conditioner and climbed in through the window.
Once back inside the residence Cesar continued to punch the victim, but this time he hit her in the stomach. Reports say he then placed a knife to her throat.
During the attack Cesar is said to have taken the victim’s cell phone away from her preventing her from calling police. However, the victim finally did escape and ran to a neighbor for help.
At the same time the victim was calling police, Cesar remained in the apartment and allegedly caused damage to her property. He’s said to have broken her flatscreen TV as well as other valuable items.
When police arrived they discovered the broken items as well as blood and hair located throughout the home, which is consistent with the victim’s statement.
A warrant for Cesar’s arrest was issued. He was located and arrested on July 2 and booked for Attempted First-Degree Feticide, Domestic Abuse Battery, Simple Kidnapping, Criminal Trespassing, Criminal Damage to Property, Home Invasion, Entry on Premises after being Forbidden, and Aggravated Assault.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for blunt abdominal trauma during pregnancy.
