BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Parents in East Baton Rouge Parish will see a slight increase in the price of lunch for the upcoming school year.
EBRP Schools announced today, Tuesday, July 3, that the school lunch program will increase by .25 cents beginning August 8.
This is the first increase since 2008.
Those students, however, who qualify for the reduced-price lunch program will continue to pay .40 cents for lunch regardless of their grade. In addition, the student breakfast program will continue to be free of charge for all students.
If a student was enrolled in the district and received free or reduced-price meals in May, the student will start the new school year on the same status until the cut-off date for applications, which is September 20. If no application is received by that date, the student will have to pay full price for lunches beginning September 20.
Parents can apply for free or reduced-price meals online beginning August 1 at www.applyforlunch.com .
Beginning that same day, school meal packets will be mailed to the home of each student enrolled in EBRPSS who is NOT certified by the state food stamp office to receive free meals for the year 2012-2013.
On August 1, EBRPSS students certified by the food stamp office to receive free school meals this year will receive a one-page letter noting their approval. All other students will receive a mailing with the school meal packet, which will include the following: 1. A "household" application for meal benefits with instructions (note: parents should return only one application form listing all children in the household), 2. School Meal Payment Policies and Procedures and 3. 2012-2013 Meal Price Chart.
Lunch account balances for the previous year’s students, negative or positive, will roll over to the new school year even if the student changes schools.
Students may purchase milk even if they do not eat a school meal.
