It's normally a pretty busy day for florists, but Valentine's Day has been a little slower than normal here in Baton Rouge. At Heroman's Florist, Valentine's Day purchases make up about 15% of the company's total yearly income. This year, sales are down by about 30%.
Over at Peregrin's Florist, deliveries are coming up short. Last year, the store had six trucks delivering floral arrangements on Valentine's Day. This year, they only have two.
Florists say the decrease is thanks to the wintery weather and the big Mardi Gras weekend. They said despite the decrease in sales, business is still pretty good. They anticipated the slower day and started selling flower arrangements early.
