The Louisiana Federation of Teachers is asking the state to help at least 200 Filipino teachers who say they're being treated unfairly by the company that recruited them.
Dozens of Filipino teachers attended a hearing at the Louisiana Workforce Commission Monday morning.
LFT argued that Universal Placement International forced the teachers to pay thousands of dollars in fees or face deportation.
But UPI says the union is telling the teachers not to pay.
And the company would work with the teachers if they could communicate.
Now, many of the teachers want out of their contracts.
