There are some who argue that sentencing guidelines should be changed in Louisiana.
There are more than 5,100 inmates at Angola State Penitentiary, 74% are serving a life sentence.
It costs taxpayers thousands of dollar every year to cover the cost of those inmates, and some think rehabilitated prisoners should have the option for parole.
In some cases, even prison officials will say that there are some inmates who are no longer a threat to society.
However, many family members of murder victims will say otherwise. For them, parole hearings make their family relive the trial and murder. One mother who lost her son to a killer said, that a life prison sentence was justice for her family and doesn't want that to change.
Louisiana is one of the few states where a life sentence is natural life.
