NBC News — Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder and former England Captain David Beckham won't compete at the London Olympics. Beckham made Britain coach Stuart Pearce's shortlist of 35 players but failed to make the 18-man team. Only three players over the age of 23 are allowed to compete.
Thirty seven year old Beckham was widely expected to make the team and played a role in helping London win the bid to host the Olympics. He told the Associated Press he was disappointed but would be the team's greatest supporter as they shoot for a gold medal. The opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games will take place on July 27th on NBC 33.
