Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — After this string of drunk driving cases, members of MADD are speaking out for the families who have lost someone to a drunk driver.
MADD Executive Director Floyd Johnson says it's not just the person killed in the crash that's a victim, it's the entire family.
He says when a jury doesn't convict a drunk driver or hand down a longer sentance, it can open up the pain of loss again.
"It's very traumatic to the survivors of the family,” stated Johnson. “I mean, here they are, one moment their member is living with them and then all of a sudden, they're just taken away. Drunk driving crashes are just so sudden and can impact anybody.”
