Naomi Collier owner of The Cartell PR Firm , and Marrisa Jones with the YMCA , came on BR Lagniappe to share about a special drive to help needy kids this summer. Collier said that her PR firm has partnered with YMCA and BREC to do a swimsuit collection drive for needy kids. Collier shared that the BREC parks have pools for the needy kids to swim in but these kids often lack the necessary swimwear to be able to swim. BREC's regulations say that the kids must wear appropriate swimming attire - not cutoff jeans-- and this drive will help these kids to be abel to swim. Collier said that the drive started in May and is continuing until July 14th. She said that there are several places where people can either drop off or mail the new or gently used swimsuits : the Exxon Mobil YMCA, the A.C. Lewis YMCA, and the Gayle Horn Law Office on N. Acadian. Collier said that they have received many swimsuits for little girls , but are in need of swimwear for little boys - ages 2-10 .
Marissa Jones with the YMCA said that the YMCA offers swimming Sun-Sun from 2-5 p.m. at the parks that have pools. and she also said that they are trying to get more kids to learn to swim as a safety precaution.
