BATON ROUGE, LA — East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Detectives have arrested a man in connection with the Friday evening shooting death of Malcolm Fitzgerald Johnson, 19, in the 900 block of Elvin Drive.
Quinton Edward Davis, 21, of Baton Rouge is charged with Second-Degree Murder and Illegal Use of a Firearm.
According to reports, Johnson was on his way home when he stopped to talk to several individuals walking on Elvin Drive. Johnson allegedly had a verbal dispute with Davis, when Davis allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Johnson multiple times.
Detectives were able to locate surveillance video footage of subjects fleeing the scene following the shooting. Detectives were able to identify one of the subjects from the surveillance video as Davis. Davis admitted to having a verbal altercation with Johnson after Johnson spoke to his brother's girlfriend. Davis alleged Johnson left the scene, but returned a short time later and tried to rob him.
Davis then admitted to shooting Johnson after he alleged Johnson pointed a handgun at him.
Other witnesses did not corroborate the accused's statement of Johnson's alleged robbery.
Davis will be transported and booked into parish prison on the above listed charges.
