BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Think you’ve got the best pot of Jambalaya in town? Prove it and help some needy pups in the process!
Heaux Jeaux’s, located at 14241 Airline Hwy, is described as “a neighborhood bar” and a place for “people that want a place they can call ‘their’ hang out.”
On Saturday, June 30, Heaux Jeaux’s will hold its official grand opening with a Jambalaya Cook Off. Teams will compete to win the title of top chef. Judges will pick the winner at 4:00 p.m.
People will the chance to snack on all that great food while listening to live music. But the best part of it all – all the proceeds from the day will go to benefit Yelp!, a shelter for abandoned dogs.
“We are a non profit and we are solely supported by private donations and the adoption fees,” Beverly Theriot, a representative of Yelp!, explained. “Of course the adoption fees don’t go very far.”
The Yelp! House is currently almost at full capacity, so the donations are vital when it comes to providing the much needed service.
“We’re just busting at the seams,” Theriot noted. “Donations go to paying for the overhead at the Yelp! House as well as the vet care, housing, food and supplies for all the animals.”
The winner of the jambalaya cook off will get a trophy and prizes to go along with the bragging rights. Registration for teams is $25.
