BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are arresting a man in the June 24 shooting in the 4000 block of Sarasota Drive at approximately 2:15 a.m. that left one man dead and another injured.
Gary Davis, 22, will be charged with First Degree Murder and Attempt First Degree.
Jarvis Nelson, 22, was located dead inside a vehicle on Sarasota and deputies were later notified that another man was hit and transported to a local hospital with injuries from the shooting.
According to reports, Davis approached the vehicle occupied by Nelson and the second victim and shot both men. Nelson died on scene, but the second man was able to run from the vehicle. Davis and Nelson were allegedly involved in an ongoing dispute.
Detectives arrested Davis on July 12 after discovering an SKS assault-type rifle at Davis’ home. Davis fled from deputies on foot, but deputies apprehended him a short time later and booked him for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Resisting an Officer. The LSP Crime Lab was able to match Davis’ weapon with shell casings found at the scene of the homicide and match DNA found on the weapon with Davis.
