Lexlee Overton, a local BR attorney and Founder of Lexlee's Kids, came on BR Lagniappe to discuss tips for parents to protect their kids from strangers.
Lexlee shared that the concept of "stranger danger" is no longer applicable as statistics show that most kids are abducted by someone that they know or have met - a family member, babysitter, neighbor, someone down the street, a friend of the family- the idea to tell a child not to talk to a stranger doesn't work. Kids don't get it.
Overton then said that their organization gives parents free Child ID kits to help law enforcement identify their kids in the event something happens. She also stated that there is a new backpack called iSafe backpack, designed for kids 8 and up which is equipped with a strobe light and 2 alarms that the child can pull that sound louder than 2 house alarms.
