BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A 23 year old pregnant woman was shot multiple times this afternoon by a man with whom she had a prior relationship, according to witnesses.
Baton Rouge Police Officers responded to the scene at roughly 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19. The shooting originally occurred on Bay Street, but the victim drove herself to the 2100 block of South Choctaw.
According to reports the victim had been involved in an argument with the suspect when things turned violent. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot the woman in the back and her arm.
Witnesses tell NBC33 News that the two were previously involved in a relationship. The suspect, who was recently released from prison, approached the victim in a hostile way.
The victim was responsive when EMS workers transported her to a local hospital for treatment. No update has been given on her condition in regards to the status of her pregnancy.
“I’m just praying to the Lord that she pulls through this,” Rosalyn Clump, mother of the victim, said with tears in her eyes.
The suspect managed to escape. Police are actively seeking information regarding his whereabouts.
