BATON ROUGE, La.(NBC33) — A metro councilwoman broke down in tears after a measure to fund a summer camp was rejected. Students and members of the MLK center went before council seeking fifty-thousand dollars in funding for a summer camp. The facility says bored and restless kids are showing up outside their doors already. And members of the MLK center are having to dig deep into their own pockets to pay for resources. Many council members refused to vote on the funding, so the money, wasn't approved. “We feed them, because they're hungry and it really saddens me that some of these kids don't have anything to eat some days," says C. Denise Marcelle. Now the group has to look elsewhere for funding they say is desperately needed not just to keep the kids fed, but also keep them off the streets and out of trouble.
