Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The new head coach of the men’s LSU basketball team, Johnny Jones, addressed the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge.
The Deridder native was hired in April to replace former coach Trent Johnson, who took a job in Texas.
Jones said he knows he's got to put a high priority on recruiting impact players. He went on to say he believes LSU offers all the tools needed to bring game changers to the program.
"We just have to make sure that we paint that picture - that you can win a championship here, that you can get to where you're trying to go from here. We've got a great brand,” stated Jones. “You talk LSU, you know it from coast to coast, and we’ve just got to make sure young people out there understand that."
Jones played at LSU from 1981-1984, including as a freshman on the 1981 NCAA Final Four team.
