NBC NATIONAL NEWS — As better designed, safer cars are coming off assembly lines, fewer injuries and deaths are being reported.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, design improvements helped save 2,000 lives and prevented one million injuries in 2008 alone.
Although Americans are driving more miles these days, the number of traffic fatalities dropped to just under 33,000 in 2010, which is the lowest level in some 60 years.
