East Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — A traffic trouble spot for drivers along I-12 is finally open.
Six lanes were opened today from O'neal Lane to Juban on the interstate there, much to the delight of thousands who travel that stretch of road every day.
Construction crews packed up and left the area today, which was a welcome sight for drivers who were stuck in miserable gridlock yesterday evening. Traffic was reduced to one lane as crews finished the restriping on the road.
A ribbon cutting was held today to christen the new stretch of road. Members of the Geaux Wider team were on hand, along with Governor Jindal, as they all promised a smooth flow of traffic from now on between East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parish.
"We know a lot of people have gone through a lot of waiting, but the end result is well worth it,” stated Bill Grass with Geaux Wider. “We’re so glad this project is done."
Governor Jindal said this completes the first two phases of interstate construction on the I-12 corridor. They plan on extending lanes to Walker and beyond.
