BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A 10-year-old child died last night after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bike.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to the intersection of Greenwell Street and Satinwood shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 11. Officials say that Kyre Wilson of Baton Rouge was riding his bicycle in the street when he allegedly crossed the path of an oncoming vehicle.
“So far the investigation shows that the child passed through a stop sign and in front of the oncoming car,” Casey Rayborn Hicks, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, explained. “The driver called 911 and stayed on scene to render aid."
Wilson was transported by EMS to a local hospital but was pronounced dead soon thereafter as a result of his injuries.
The driver voluntarily submitted to a blood test and those results are still pending. The driver was not issued any citation nor were any charges filed at this time. However, the incident is still under investigation.
