GRAY, LA — A Gray man was arrested late Thursday night in connection with the murder of his sister, Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at around 10:17 p.m. from a male subject who indicated that two subjects had been shot and were inside a home located on Rhett Place. The caller indicated that the suspect, Joseph Voisin, had left the residence and fled the area. Patrol deputies and detectives responded and within 6 minutes located and detained Joseph Voisin.
Upon making entry into the residence, the 911 caller was found unharmed. He directed deputies and detectives to a rear bedroom where two subjects were located suffering from gunshot wounds. Bayou Cane Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance personnel arrived on scene and began medical attention to both victims.
Both victims were transported to local hospitals.
The female victim, identified as Joseph's sister, Mary Voisin, 47, was pronounced dead shortly after. She suffered from two gunshot wounds. The male victim, identified as Christopher Smith, 45, is listed in critical condition. He suffers from four gunshot wounds. Christopher was Mary's live-in boyfriend. Both victims resided at the home with the suspect.
Joseph Voisin was arrested and charged with one count of Second-Degree Murder and one count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder. He was booked and jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on a $575,000 bond.
