The family of a Warwick, RI woman reported missing in Haiti since Tuesday’s earthquake burst with joy when it got the news that their loved one had survived.
Dr. Michael Gooding and his daughter, Rachel, were frantically trying to reach Natalie Gooding. She had been in Port-au-Prince working to set up an orphanage.
However when the magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck on Tuesday, the orphanage was destroyed and the area was devastated.
The family had been trying to contact Natalie since the earthquake hit and hadn’t heard anything, until Thursday afternoon.
Michael Gooding received word that she was OK.
Natalie was able to talk briefly to her family about what happened using the Web-based phone system Skype.
“I was in the shower,“ Natalie told Rachel via Skype. “I was just finishing my shower and I was completely naked and I heard this sound and I thought maybe it was an airplane and but pretty soon and it was something different.“
The connection was eventually lost, but it was enough for Rachel and the rest of the family.
