CADDO PARISH, LA — Caddo Parish authorities have arrested a man for trying to murder his girlfriend after he intentionally drove his vehicle into Cross Lake.
Deputies were dispatched to reports of a vehicle in Cross Lake on the 6100 block of North Lakeshore Drive about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
A red SUV was spotted in the water about 15 to 20 feet from the shore and appeared to be sinking. Officials say it also appeared that the driver, Dajuan Jackson, 29, was restraining his girlfriend, D’Aqua Guiden, 19, in the vehicle while it was sinking.
The first deputy to arrive on scene, along with one fireman entered the water and swam to the vehicle. They pulled Guiden from Jackson’s grasp and out trhough the passenger window. Jackson, who could not swim, then climbed out of the vehicle. Both swam to shore with officials.
Law enforcement later learned that Jackson had deliberately swerved off the roadway into the lake in an effort to kill both himself and Guiden.
Guiden was treated at the scene and released. Jackson was treated at the scene and taken to the Caddo Correctional Center where he was booked for Attempted Second-Degree murder of Guiden.
